5:00 p.m. - Music and Tailgating - Join us for First Friday: Music by the Water at Wingra Park and Boat Livery in Madison, Wisconsin (824 Knickerbocker St, Madison, WI 53711). We’ll bring light fare (snack food), beverages, and picnic blankets. There will also be food carts* nearby. The event starts at 5:00p.m. with kids music followed by a local band. Boats are available to rent at the nearby boat livery.

8:40 p.m. - Fireworks! A generous donor from the local neighborhood typically puts on a fantastic fireworks display on July 4 at this park. It’s not advertised anywhere, so it’s hard to say if it will happen. But it’s been happening every year for at least the last 10 years. This fireworks display is my favorite that I’ve ever been to!

* If food cart fare is not for you, I’d recommend checking out Fairchild, which is walking distance from Wingra Park and my favorite restaurant in all of Madison. Reservations open at midnight 35 days in advance of any given dinner service.

9:45 a.m. - Capitol Tour - Join us for a tour of the Wisconsin State Capitol (2 E Main St, Madison, WI 53702). The tour is 45 minutes and departs from the Information Desk on the ground floor of the Capitol Rotunda. Please be aware that you’ll need to park at a nearby parking garage and walk to the Capitol. (There’s also a Saturday morning Farmer’s Mark, so there may be additional traffic). Parking recommendation: State Street Capitol Garage (200 N. Carroll St.; Madison, WI 53703).

11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. - Scavenger Hunt! Feel free to explore downtown Madison at your leisure. I’ll provide a scavenger hunt of some fun spots to visit. On Saturdays, the Capitol Square is home to a lovely Farmer’s Market. I’d also recommend walking down State Street, an outdoor shopping district that is bookended by the State Capitol and the University of Wisconsin. Restaurant recommendations: Cooper’s Tavern, Heritage Tavern.

3:30 - 6:00 p.m. - Family Olympics! Come over to our place at 415 Park View Drive, Mount Horeb, WI, for the rest of the evening. We’ll split into teams and compete in a variety of fun, family-friendly games!
